A Natural History Trail Ride was held on July 30, 2011 sponsored by Burt Township's Burt Lake Trail Committee, Top of Michigan Trails Council, Little Traverse Conservancy and the  University of Michigan Biological Station. Speakers from LTC (Doug Fuller) and UMBIO (Bob  
Vandekopple and Karie Slavik) gave bikers insight into the areas natural resources and history. Over 30 riders participated along a portion of the proposed Burt Lake Trail route from Maple Bay Campground continuing along Brutus Road, W. Burt Lake Rd, Hogsback and Riggsville Roads and E.
